šŸ’ Uzbekistan Jewellery Fair 2025 | May 23–25

Not your average weekend outing — the Uzbekistan Jewellery Fair is a business expo, but it’s also a sparkling, visually attractive event open to the public. If you’re into design, fashion, or just want to see some jaw-dropping pieces up close, it’s well worth a wander.

Expect glittering displays from local and international jewellers, plus the latest in jewellery-making tech and equipment. Last time it ran, more than $100 million worth of jewellery changed hands — so you're definitely in for some serious bling.

Pre-registration is required, but entry is free. Register here.

 Sabantuy Festival

Looking for something a bit different this weekend? Join the celebrations of Sabantuy — a lively Tatar-Bashkir festival marking the end of spring fieldwork.

Sabantuy, meaning ā€œplough’s feast,ā€ is a centuries-old celebration of heritage and unity among Tatar and Bashkir communities — many of whom have long called Tashkent home. What began as a rural ritual has evolved into a joyful public festival full of music, games, and cultural pride.

Expect traditional performances, energetic folk music, and a packed schedule of games and contests: kurash wrestling, tug of war, sack races, egg-and-spoon challenges, and the famous climb-the-pole-after-the-rooster (?) event.

🦁 Visiting ā€˜Magic Safari’

Last week we introduced Tashkent’s newest family-friendly attraction, Magic Safari. Unfortunately, there’s surprisingly little information about it online (especially in English).

Since its opening weekend coincided with the Tashkent Insider CEO’s 2nd birthday, we thought we’d pay it a visit and share some extra info.

Alpacas? LLamas?

Magic Safari is a park covering 20 hectares, split into more than ten themed zones, with animals from across the globe — lions, kangaroos, alpacas, parrots, deer, camels, lemurs, flamingos, fish and plenty more. There's also a contact zone called Zoo-Zoo where kids can feed farm animals like goats, ponies, and rabbits.

The park is centred around a large lake, and walking the full loop will probably take you 1–2 hours.

The verdict? Magic Safari is well worth visiting if you have children. In terms of quality, it’s on par with Magic City as one of Tashkent’s best family attractions.

It’s a mix between a zoo and a theme park, with street performers, play areas, carnival games and, of course, animals. The enclosures are relatively spacious, and the conditions are much better than at Tashkent Zoo.

Upon arriving at the park, you need to choose whether to walk around or take the safari bus. The bus does have the advantage of getting a little closer to the animals but I’d recommend just walking as you get to experience the park at your own pace.

The entry fee doesn’t cover everything, but the extra charges for certain sections (like the farm animal zone and bird exhibits) only apply to adults. That means you just need to pay for one adult to take the kids in for free.

The park was very busy on the weekend, so if you’d prefer to avoid crowds, it’s best to go early in the day or on a weekday.

Essential Info

šŸ•’ Opening hours: 10:00–22:00
