Happy New Year!

Yangi Yil bilan! Š” ŠŠ¾Š²Ń‹Š¼ ГоГом!

I’d like to wish Happy New to all of our readers and thanks again for subscribing.

I hope you have a chance to relax with family and friends wherever you are in the world.

I started the newsletter in March 2025, to help English speakers keep up with what’s happening in Tashkent. I received lots of positive feedback, meaning there’s a genuine need for media in English.

As you may have noticed, I’ve been unable to keep it up. This time of year is busy with work (and taking our CEO to indoor play areas/the hospital).

I hope to restart around March/April when outdoor events begin and I have more free time.

In the meantime if you’d like to become a contributor, please feel free to reply and we’ll see if we can work something out.

Happy New Year again…Ryan

Introducing VisitTashkent.uz…

Whilst the newsletter has been sleeping, I’ve been quietly working on a new project.

VisitTashkent.uz shares tourist attractions, restaurants, places to stay, and hopefully a lot more in time. The aim is to create the most up-to-date directory for visitors and residents of the city.

Tashkent’s Travel & Tourism Hub

I’d really like your suggestions on what else would be useful, especially local experiences, English speaking services, events, or things that are hard to find online.

PS. If you’re a restaurant owner or run a business in the tourism sector, you’re welcome to create a free listing here.

PPS. If you’re a local tour guide and can run a food tour, get in touch.

German Christmas Stall Opens in the Centre of Tashkent

Are you a fan of Currywurst?! 🌭

Do you need some warm, authentic Glühwein in your life? šŸ·

Frohes Neues Jahr!

A couple of friends of mine have recently moved back to Tashkent after living in Germany for a few years.

They’re in the process of opening a new organic restaurant just a few minutes from Amir Temur Square but for the moment they’re serving German street food including sausages, mulled wine, chocolates, crepes, waffles, pretzels and more…

Lecker!

They’re located on Nuroniylar Street (Google maps), right next to Bonn and are open daily from 11AM until 1PM until 9th January (closed 31st Dec and 1st Jan).

I highly recommend you give them a visit!

Is Disneyland Coming to Uzbekistan??

Over the past few weeks, there’s been some quiet speculation about whether Disneyland could be coming to Uzbekistan.

It sounds far-fetched, but the idea didn’t come out of nowhere.

A meeting between the president’s daughter and representatives from Disney sparked a few very different headlines, and the story quickly took on a life of its own.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems a few publishers jumped the gun on this story! The owners of Magic City can sleep peacefully - for now…

In the News this Week…

  • Burger King Opens in Uzbekistan
Burger King has opened its first restaurant in Uzbekistan near Beruniy Metro Station in Tashkent, with plans to expand to ten locations by 2026, including sites in major shopping and entertainment centres.

  • Buses to Run Until 1:00 AM the Night of Dec 31st
With many of the bus drivers likely dressed in Santa costumes.

  • A tram, metro, and a bridge across the Chirchik River will appear in New Tashkent by 2027.
The projects aim to strengthen transport links between the capital and New Tashkent, effectively manage traffic flow, and create a convenient environment for public transportation. (RU)
