What’s on in May
May is one of the best months to be in Tashkent — perfect weather and a packed calendar of events! Here’s a quick look at what’s happening:
🎺 Every evening until 13 May: Tashkent Jazz Festival is in full swing! Free performances at the Palace of International Forums — with local and international artists. Grammy-winning trumpeter Chris Botti headlining (read more below).
🌹1-3 May: Flower Festival at National Library square, Yunusubad. Aimed at attracting public attention to issues of environmental education, nature protection, and environmental awareness among young people.
😂 7 May: Victor Patrascan brings his ‘Stand Up Comedy in Broken English’ to Sahna Stand Up Club. Tickets.
🍔🎶 9–11 May: The Mazza Food & Music Festival hits UzExpocentre: with DJs, dancing, and plenty of food from international cuisines. Tickets.
🏃♂️🌿 10, 18 & 25 May: Trail running events around Tashkent region and Bostanlik District, with English-speaking guides (read more below).
☕🌱 16–18 May: Tea & Coffee Fest at Anhor Lokomotiv Park — caffeine lovers, this one’s for you. Three days of coffee masterclasses, barista competitions, and musical performances. Free to attend.
🎉 17 May: Welcome Summer Party at Alisher Navoi Cinema Palace: live performances, DJ sets, a show programme with prizes, photo zones, chill-out areas, and ‘unlimited drinks’.. Tickets
💎 23–25 May: Uzbekistan Jewellery Fair at CAEx Uzbekistan. The second international jewellery, gems, modern technologies and equipment exhibition in Uzbekistan. Registration required.
🎤 25 May: International K-pop group Blackswan will perform live at Humo Arena.
🎶 29–31 May: Stihia Electronic Music Festival. One of the world’s most isolated music events, this electronic music festival takes place by the dried up Aral Sea’s ‘ship graveyard’. Not Tashkent but Muynak, Karakalpakstan — worth the trip if you can make it! More info.

🌼 Tashkent Flower Festival – 1 to 3 May
Celebrate spring with a visit to the Tashkent Flower Festival, taking place in National Library Square, Yunusabad District. This three-day event focuses on environmental awareness, sustainability, and promoting the principles of a green economy.
Expect exhibits, eco-themed activities, and stalls from local businesses and organisations working in ecological design, sustainable development, and green initiatives.
Plus the chance for a billion and one selfies, of course.

Open to the public – all ages welcome.
🎷 Tashkent International Jazz Festival continues..
Tashkent’s biggest celebration of jazz began last night with Dutch outfit Sven Hammond Big Band opening the festival.
The crowd danced, national media turned up, and the wind (just about) behaved.

The event is daily until May 13. Head to the open-air stage behind the Palace of International Forums (the big, fancy government building on Amir Temur Square).
Every concert is free and starts at 19:30. From experience, there’s a friendly atmosphere and plenty of people without being crowded.

🏃♂️ Trail Running Events This Spring
Spring is here and it’s the perfect time to explore the hills around Tashkent on foot! Trail Running Uzbekistan is hosting a series of scenic trail races this month, ranging from short climbs to longer mountain routes — all open to runners of all levels.
There’s now an English-speaking team member, Niandi, helping the international community in Tashkent join in without language barriers, making it easier than ever to take part.
Included in registration: unique medals designed for each event, feed stations at the start and finish, and optional transfers from Tashkent (paid separately).
📅 Upcoming dates:
– 10 May: Small Chimgan Trail – 3.5km / 500m ascent
– 18 May: Aktash Trail – 24km / 1600m ascent
– 25 May: Kyzyljar Trail – 19km / 700m ascent
– 1 June: King of the Hill – Children’s race (ages 7–15)

In the News this Week…
• Special Economic Zone and Golf Club in Parkent
Uzbekistan and Malaysia discuss plans for a new special economic zone in Parkent district, focused on tourism, healthcare, education, and logistics. As part of the project, a Malaysian company also plans to open a golf club near Tashkent.
• New Tashkent–Khiva Train Launches
Uzbekistan Railways has launched a new overnight train service connecting Tashkent and Khiva, aiming to boost domestic tourism and make travel to Khiva more accessible.
• Tashkent’s Metro and Architecture Featured in The Guardian
The Guardian has published a feature praising Tashkent’s Soviet-era metro stations and modernist architecture, describing the city’s style as a unique mix of "UFO circus" and cosmic grandeur.
